Detect Poison
Spell Access Level: Cantrip
Mana Cost: 0
Potion / Rune / Scroll / Wand: No / No / No / No
Cast Time: 1 Swift Action
Range: Visual
Duration: Concentration
The caster can detect whether something within their visual range is poisoned or not by the object giving off a dull, greenish glow. They cannot discern what type of poison it is or how powerful and instead can only determine that poison is present.
Only natural poisons can be detected whether it is in the form of a naturally poisonous organism or if an object such as a weapon, food, liquid, or trap has poison present. If a creature has been poisoned, the creature will dimly glow green indicating they have consumed or been infected with a poison. Creatures that are venomous or that have the Venomous Offensive Trait also give off the same dim green glow. Poisons created magically or that are formed using mana cannot be detected.
The spell can only be used if the caster has the Vision sense and cannot be used with other visual replacement senses such as echo-location, tremor sense, scent, or anything else other than “Vision” itself. Attempting to do so automatically fails. However, the range of the spell does increase if the range of the caster’s vision increases such as by using a telescope or increased senses via spells or technology including artificial or augmented vision.
